1. Negative a. The sermon is not addressed to sinners—We know that this is true for two reasons. Firstly, Jesus addressed, not sinners, but those who claimed to be saved (those who claimed to be His disciples) and secondly, sinners cannot keep the high and holy moral standards outlined in this sermon for they, not having the Holy Spirit, do not have the power to keep them. Yet thousands of sinners believe (1) that “the Sermon on the Mount” is the true gospel; (2) that the sermon is addressed to them;
